May in Instagram

silly quality time with Corey // my first custom order

I'd say that May was a pretty productive month! I'm not making a lot of money right now but that's not my goal anyway, it's to be self-employed and I know that takes time. I set my expectations fairly and so far I'm meeting all of my goals, and even exceeding them.

I know that a lot of people think I need to suck it up and get a "real" job, but I've done that and I know it's not for me. I'm going to be patient and focus on staying happy, because that's the most important thing. Eventually everything is going to fall into place and I don't want to rush into it.

Lately, I'm trying to savor every good moment. I have such little time left to spend with Corey before he's gone and it's a bummer, but it's definitely put things into perspective. Life is short, don't ever forget that.

Web Crushin'

1. "Period panties" from Harebrained, a Chicago based designer. These are called Bleeder of the Pack.

2. Larkspur hi-lo dress from Francesca's. Actually, I already bought this for a wedding I'm in this July!

3. Old Fashioned Shaving Set from Mr. Kitty's. I'm planning on getting this for my dad for Father's Day. Corey actually bought some of this stuff straight from the guy at the Fremont Market in Seattle, and I loved him!

4. Kate's post about being able to paint things because you would have never otherwise bought them. I hear things like this from people all the time. I actually scored an antique dresser at an estate sale that's pretty haggard right now, but will be gorgeous soon!

5. I saw this guy and his mom on one of those shows "My Crazy Obsession" or something, and I was so entertained, I stayed up until after 3 a.m. watching it! So oddly CUTE.

By the way, that is a capybara and they're the world's largest rodents. The lady spends the majority of her day taking care of her pet and costs more than I spend weekly on food for myself!

I love the summery look of this outfit without it having to be too colorful. Plus, wearing this skirt just makes me want to spin in happy circles! Speaking of happy, Corey is coming home today for a long weekend off. Peanut Butter Dog Treats

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that I made some peanut butter cookies for the pups in my family. Grizzly prefers crunchy treats, and these are little bit softer. I gave some to my sister's dog, Baylie, for her fourth birthday and she absolutely loved them!

What you'll need:
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup peanut butter
1 1/4 cups hot water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, mix the flour and oats until evenly dispersed. Then gently combine the water and peanut butter to the dry ingredients.

Knead with your hands until you have a smooth ball of dough. Take a rolling pin and flatten out the dough. You can use a cookie cutter to make cute shapes, but I just broke off pieces and rolled them into little balls. After I placed the balls on a nonstick pan, I flattened them out using pressure with a fork.

Bake for 30 minutes. If you want them a little bit softer, take them out 5-10 minutes early. For a shiny look, brush a thin coat of egg whites onto the cookies before baking.

A quick and simple recipe... My favorite kind. :)

DIY Ideas

I'm so happy that I finally have my own computer again. The first thing I did when I opened my web browser was organize my bookmark tabs. I'm really bad about bookmarking every little thing I see! My favorite things to save are DIY ideas from all over the internet. They always give me inspiration when I'm feeling bored or a little dull, so I hope they do the same for you!

We'll start with my favorite. Meredith from One Sheepish Girl posted this back in November but I still have yet to actually do this! One day soon. :)

Embroidered Notebook // One Sheepish Girl

This iPad case is adorable, although I'd make it for my Kindle.

iPad Case // Oh So Lovely

Love, love, love these cute friendship bracelets.

Heart Bracelets // Honestly WTF

I must make these in different colors for my future home!

Scribble Painted Glassware // My So-Called Crafty Life

Look at these quick and simple vases! I can think of a few uses for these...

Hanging Vases // P.S.- I made this...

Have you done any DIY projects lately or any you want to try? I'd love to see! Hope y'all have a great weekend!

Outfit: By The Lake

I'm so happy about this outfit post! I'm finally getting more used to being in front of the camera and using my tripod. I think I'm also getting better at editing my pictures.

I'm really proud of these pictures because it shows progression in coming out of my shell. Even if I took these on my own, I often have a hard time feeling ridiculous about things even when no one's around. That has to stop! I'm trying to be more outgoing and open to new things, and also to simply be more silly. I feel like I'm too serious a lot of times, and I don't want to be the kind of person who can't let loose and have a good time.

And one more, just for fun!

Outfit Details:
bathing suit // thrifted
shorts // TopShop, thrifted
shoes // Urban Outfitters

I found this amazing bathing suit at a community yard sale for $1 and I love it so much. I opted to cut the padding out of it and wear it with a strapless bra, so that it doesn't look pointy or crunchy like a lot of vintage suits do. Also, I thrifted these shorts in Portland and paid more than I ever have for thrifted clothing. There's no regrets, though- They're comfortable and flattering!

Last of the Honeymoon Series

I have a couple new readers, so in case you aren't caught up: I got married almost two months ago, and my husband and I took a three week road trip all around the country! I've been posting recaps of the locations which you can see here, and this will be the last of the honeymoon posts! ;(

Our last major stop was supposed to be Denver, CO which I was super excited for, because my best friend moved there a few months ago. A huge winter storm came through, and all over the news channels was Denver and the amount of snow it was supposed to get. We had to cancel our plans and completely reroute our way back. About 10 hours into our drive, it started snowing pretty bad so we stopped for the night.

Waking up that morning, there was only a little bit of snow on the ground so we thought we'd be okay to make it to Sioux Falls, SD which is 13 hours away. We made it about 8 hours, which included me driving for 150 miles on the opposite side of the highway! Such a scary drive.

+ driving on an iced over interstate +

After not seeing a gas station for a couple hundred miles, we finally got to stop in this cute, tiny town. My tires had built up sludge all around them, to the point where we almost couldn't turn the wheels!

+ cute bench outside of the gas station +

After a while, we decided to call it a day. When we got off the interstate, we got stuck in the middle of the road trying to get to a cheap hotel. We ended up being pulled by a nice couple to a closer hotel, and twice as expensive, and getting stuck there for almost three days!

Luckily, there was a hole in the wall casino across the street to kill time. ;)

The interstates finally opened up and we started our long and incredibly boring journey home. I had such an amazing and unforgettable time. I had a lot of free time in the car to think about my life, my relationships, and my future and I cannot wait to put everything into action. This was the beginning of a  beautiful life that I am looking forward to so much!
