Music Monday: Monsters of Folk

Monsters of Folk is definitely one of my favorite bands. With M. Ward and Conor Oberst of Bright eyes, and Mike Mogis who has engineered and produced lots of albums for Saddle Creek, it's a genius combination with brilliant lyrics that still blow my mind every time I listen to them.

When I went to search for a video of this song to post, I found this one of them performing in KISS costumes, so naturally I'm sharing. I've had a 10 year crush on Conor and it's not stopping now!

Music Monday #15: Working Titles.

Not gonna lie, I haven't cried to a song in quite some time. When I heard this, I got chills and soon enough, there were tears. I don't even know. I try to stop posting music from Sweden, but it's just not going to happen. :)

Music Monday #14: Sing the last song!

I don't know about you, but I was a total emo kid in high school. One of my favorite bands was Saves The Day, and I still listen to them quite a lot! (Unlike Taking Back Sunday, which is more of a nostalgic or alcohol-influenced listen...) I saw this video a couple years ago and had to look it up after just listening to the album version of the song.

I just love that the cops try to stop it, all the while saying, "You guys sound great!" then letting them finish their song. After that, they even stick around and buy a CD! Ha ha ha.

I would still like to get "stay what you are" tattooed somewhere on me, as a reference to my favorite album by them. :)

Music Monday #13: Things just don't grow.

This week I'm posting yet another band hailing from Sweden, First Aid Kit, that consists of two lovely-voiced sisters. I first noticed them when they covered "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" by Fleet Foxes and later discovered they've played live alongside Bright Eyes, Lykke Li, Jack White, and even Fleet Foxes. Exciting! Anyway, here's a beautiful song to brighten your day.

Music Monday #12: I live until the call.

That couch. That wallpaper! Okay, really it's Kristian Matsson we should be swooning over. My boyfriend introduced me a couple years ago and I was instantly smitten. And that was BEFORE I knew what he looked like! I won't even talk about the fact that he's Swedish.

I'll stop now.

Music Monday #11: It feels so much lighter.

There's a lot of stuff goin' on in my life right now... and while it's a little overwhelming, it's way more exciting. I just got butterflies typing that sentence! I can't wait to start sharing more with you. For now, I'll leave you with a love song. ;)

Music Monday #10: Glasvegas.

Over the weekend, I had a little disagreement with a friend over the talent of Mumford and Sons. When I first heard them, I really wasn't into it. Their songs seemed to rhyme just for the sake of being catchy (Sigh No More). They eventually grew on me. Anyway, he posted this song and some others on another friend's Facebook and I can't stop listening now. I do love me some Scottish bands. (Belle and Sebastian, Frightened Rabbit, Mogwai, Camera Obscura)

I hope you enjoy as much as I do!

Music Monday #9: The Raveonettes.

I first listened to The Raveonettes when I was in 10th grade, mostly I played the song "Uncertain Times" on repeat, around anyone who would listen or when I laid in the grass smoking cigarettes outside in the cold. (Oh, to be sixteen...) They put out their newest album in September, which I just listened to today after feeling the nostalgic need to hear my old song. Anyway, I heard this song which I quite like. Hope you enjoy, too!

Music Monday #8: Sleigh Ride.

December... When Black Friday commercials are finally off the radio, and Christmas music replaces it. I don't like or support the materialistic craziness of Black Friday, and I never used to like Christmas music. Or listening to the radio. But a lot has changed in this past year of my life, and I have to listen to the radio at work now. (Which, I'm not complaining, because I have a job and get to listen to music while working.) And my co-worker LOVES Christmas music. I won't deny that when I was leaving work one day last week, I caught myself humming holiday songs.

I think I've been converted... Therefore I'd like to dedicate all Music Mondays this month to Christmas music. I'll start with She and Him. I'm a huge Zooey Deschanel fan, and an M. Ward fan. So when the two got together it was a dream! Her voice is so, so amazing.

Music Monday #7: Lust for Life

A friend showed me this video a couple years ago, and I was smitten. I've been listening to Girls ever since. They're weird and sad and poppy and catchy.
It's sorta like the best kind of nostalgia.

Music Monday #6: I am still filled with feeling.

I first saw this video years ago in a skateboarding video. Immediately I was Google-ing the lyrics to find out more about this band. I never found much, and still to this day I've only heard about 5 songs. The main dude is Brendan Fowler, an LA based musician and visual artist. Here's his WEBSITE that links to some of his work. I'm not really a fan. Anyway, this song rules. Hope you enjoy!

Music Monday #5: I've been down, I've been out.

I mentioned before that my hours at work got cut, and now I'm officially off on Mondays. This is pretty cool because now I have one full day a week to focus on everything. I just now signed up on StoreEnvy and I've got a lot of work to get done in the next two weeks!

My music tastes ranges from one end to the other, but I really do love me some alt-country. I've been listen to a lot of Chuck Ragan and Joe Pug lately. It seems like a lot of the singers from bands I like have solo stuff, and they apparently collaborate together and I didn't even know it! Ben Nichols of Lucero, Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music, Tom Gabel of Against Me!, Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, and lastly Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem. This isn't all of them, but their solo stuff is so. good. Brian Fallon is my latest discovery so today I'm posting a Gaslight Anthem cover he did.

Happy Monday!

Music Monday #4: Back down south.

Today at work, the lady who works in the embroidery room with me asked me to share a booth with her at a craft fair coming up. How exciting!! She has taught me pretty much everything I know about embroidery, and she's crafty in her own ways, too. She bakes cakes as a second job and sells homemade wreaths, too. I haven't seen any yet, but she'll be selling them at the craft fair. This is really just the push I needed to start actually getting things done. I've got a little less than a month to decide which online store I want to use, get it running, make business cards (I'm making them all by hand), and actually have an inventory.

Tomorrow I'll show you guys some pictures of some stuff I've been working on, and also some pictures from Halloween and this past weekend. My boyfriend and I dressed up as grandma and grandpa, it was hilarious! I know I said I would be posting a tutorial last weekend but I've really been slacking and it's no good. :(

It is Music Monday, so I'll leave you with this Kings of Leon video. It's one of my favorite songs by them and reminds me of what (little) I DO like about living in the south. I find it hard to like a song after watching the music video, but I think the video is really well put together.

Music Monday #3: Inspiration

Mondays. Most people don't like them but I like to use them for motivation. This week I'm going to eat better food! I'm going to make lots of cool things! I'm going to get back on track with running! I usually don't really stick to these things, but it's worth trying? I did take Grizzly on a 4 mile walk and we stopped by the lake to so he could ponder simple dog things like why leaves were flying all over the place or why the dock was making squeaking noises. I thought about how pretty much everyone's identity in SC got stolen over the weekend. Oh well.

I've been listening to some different music lately, 'cause I find if I change it up more then I feel more inspired and that's what I based this week's playlist on. Makes me wanna get out of bed and make crafts. (Yes, it is 7:30 and I'm laying in bed.)

LISTEN HERE.

One day I'll figure out how to embed the stuff, or some lovely person might come along and tell me how!!

Music Monday #2: Autumn

I know last week I said I was going to post an Autumn playlist, but I got a little distracted. Before I post the link to the playlist (I CANNOT figure out how to embed it into the actual post! Help!) I wanted to rave about the new Mumford and Sons album, Babel. IT IS SO GOOD. When I first heard M&S, I didn't really understand why everyone loved them. My boyfriend told me to give them another try, and last winter I blasted them all the time. Babel is by far the best album I've heard. So buy it, or download it, or whatever you do just give it a listen!

Have you already heard it? What did you think?

You can view my Autumn playlist HERE.

Tomorrow I'll be writing about my first Craftistas experience!

Music Monday #1: New and old

Ahhh.... my first official post! I've kinda created a little plan for how I want my posts to go, so I have a little theme going and some organization so readers aren't thinking I'm all over the place... Which I'll go ahead and admit it, I AM! But I'm gonna do it in an organized way, I promise!

So it's Monday. Music Monday. Which means in order to keep this thing on schedule, I've been listening to a lot of new and old stuff to make a playlist that flows the way I wanted. This week my playlist doesn't exactly have a topic or theme, but it's a lotta what I like, so I hope you enjoy!!

Next week will be an Autumn playlist and I'm suuuper excited for that. :)

listen here.
